Explanation:Ornately stylized red-figure fish plate. Characteristic of the type, the plate consists of a flat, dimpled disk elevated on a pedestal base. Its broad rim is turned down and is decorated with a spiral wave and dot motif. Three fish of different species circle the painted central depression. They are realistically rendered with details such as eyes and fins enlivened in added white. Displays nicely.

Explanation:Beautiful black-figure amphora with rare owl motif. Beneath each black-glazed strap handle the body is decorated with a stylized tree branch with three Egyptian-style front-facing owls between the branches on each side of the vase. Each owl varies slightly in height and stature, but all have remains of white paint delineating a triangular beak, dotted eyes and an arc indicating the left wing. Each stands on relatively long, white legs with slightly arched talons. Two eyes still have a significant amount of white glaze, while one bird has an extra line of detail distinguishing its neck. The vessel's shoulder bears alternating black and white strokes. Two thick black bands border the owl motif. Flared neck encircled by a wreath with a black vine and white stemmed leaves. Black glaze covers lip and interior of neck. Owls stand on a thick encircling ground line, a reserve band below. Continuous black glaze covers the narrowed bottom of the vessel's body and flared foot. The foot is concave and reserved on underside.

Explanation:Red-figure trefoil lip chous depicting a lady of fashion. Her face is rendered in a solemn manner with neatly drawn eye, furrowed brow, prominent nose and lips pursed in a slight frown. She wears a starkly decorated kekryphalos with thick curly hair revealed along her hairline. The head is framed by simplified palmettes with modified leaves behind her. The scene is framed by a simple reserved border, the top edge of which has eight dots applied in black. Covered in thick lustrous black glaze. Delicate curved handle runs from the lip to the shoulder. Small ring base, partially reserved beneath.

Explanation:Apulian red-figure pyxis with a black-glazed dish and painted lid depicting two ladies of fashion facing left. The women are nearly identical with ornate saccos, spiked stephane, earrings and necklace all detailed in applied white and dilute black glaze. Between each face is a large palmette. Each woman is framed with a half palmette before her and volute behind her with added white enhancing the flora. The exterior of the handle to the lid is covered with a thinly applied black glaze, while the interior is decorated with a spoke pattern. The shallow bowl has an inset flange to receive the lid and is set on a high hollow foot.

Explanation:Petite round "warrior" aryballos with buff slip and brown glaze in popular Corinthian style. There are four large stylized armed heroes in silhouette with large decorated round shields, heads projecting above and facing right with faces marked simply by incision. The two warriors on each end carry dark shields incised around the perimeter with two parallel decorative lines across the shield, while the two inner soldiers carry shields with central floral motifs accented with incision. Concentric brown bands enclose the scene. Dots fill the negative space between the warriors and borders. Shoulder is decorated with radials. Wide flat rim enhanced with concentric circles and a single band of dots on the lip.
